Samara on the Shore, is create by breaking down her form into the abstract shapes of shadows, mid tones and highlight. This is one of five canvas that utilizing the beauty of Samara as my model, walking on the rocky beach. Breaking her feminine form into abstract shapes create by their shadows, mid-tones and highlights. This a common recurring theme that I used many times to capture an abstract version of the human figure. Normally when doing a portrait or a figure painting the abstract shapes are blended together to create a rounded form, but by leaving them in their hard abstract shape it makes a statement that goes beyond photographic realism. Again this was inspired by Dord Fitz, who taught portrait by first laying down the basic shapes and then blending them. I decided not to blend the shapes and allow your eye/mind put the image together. Also if you notice Samara appears to be walking out of the painting into the room.
