"Sunset on Mars" is from my paintings that dealt with appearance of a dusty sunset on an Alien World. It is Abstract Expressionism, conceptionally, on an abstract level it deals with what Dord Fitz called Scale Tension. Scale tension is where two opposing sides are similar but not quite the same. This similarity but is not exact on both sides creates this tension. It is this tension that entertains the eye as our vison scans back and forth looking at the commonality vs the difference. The scale tension between the two sides gives it a living quality. I use this compositional concept a lot in my paintings because I want the painting to be in constant state of movement.
